If you are looking for HDTV plasma, the 50-inch from Pioneer PDP-5070HD, though comparatively more expensive is the best, according to many who are fussy about picture quality. Though Pioneer's industrial plasma HDTVs are known for their inky black images, the PDP-5070HD displays rich pictures with colors that are most realistic. Their black levels are also good. This HDTV plasma from Pioneer is packed with value-added features like a dual-tuner PIP, a Cable Card slot, a program guide, speakers which can be detached and a USB unit. It costs close to $3150.

Amongst the 50-inch plasma HDTV, the Panasonic TH-50PX60U at about $2100 offers good value for money. Less costlier that the Pioneer PDP-5070HD, the picture quality is not as immaculate as the Pioneer model but connectivity seems to be better than any other HDTV plasma models in the market. There is no PIP or detachable speakers. While Panasonic's own industrial plasma models have better performance scores, this model offers accurate colors with rich black tones. Fairs well amongst HDTV plasma general category.

If you are keen on the 42-inch plasma screen HDTV, you could consider Pioneer PDP-4270HD which is priced at around $2270 - the costliest in its segment. The price is justified by superior quality of pictures as well as a plethora of features which make TV viewing an experience by itself. Equipped with Advanced Pure Cinema mode, a feature available in the larger PDP-5070HD model also, the improved picture quality embodies a movie-like experience. This model is also equipped with a special color filter which sharpens the contrast as well as reduces light reflections. Considering the features match their more expensive model PDP-5070HD, Pioneer's PDP-4270HD offers excellent value for money, if you not too keen on 50-inch plasma screen that is.

In the 42-inch HDTV plasma segment, Panasonic TH-42PX60U, priced at $1400, is a good buy too. Good images, may be not as good as Panasonic's industrial models or Pioneer's HDTV plasmas, this model has excellent black and accurate color synchronizing abilities. Though it may not carry all the usual features like PIP, etc, it has a Secure Digital slot by the help of which you could read memory cards from digital cameras. At the price in which it is available, this is an excellent buy, considering it has built-in tuners, speakers and comes with a table stand.
